Abstract

The intensification of Public Health Surveillance during the Christmas season, for the 2024 season and the beginning of the new year 2025, allowed the identification and, in some cases, the control of health and epidemiological risks. Materials and Methods: Descriptive study of the intensified public health surveillance actions during the end-of-year season, including gunpowder and environmental health surveillance (food, beverages, alcoholic beverages, and toys). Results: In environmental health surveillance through operations targeting the storage and marketing of food, alcoholic beverages, and toys, health safety measures were applied due to non-compliance with regulations for altered, fraudulent, or adulterated products, non-compliance with labeling, and non-compliance with hygienic-sanitary conditions, with the destruction of 2 554 kg of food, 1 073 liters of beverages, and 618 liters of alcoholic beverages. Epidemiological surveillance carried out intensified monitoring of injuries caused by fireworks, recording 146 injuries, 43 of which were children and adolescents; and 103 cases were reported in adults. Regarding ETA outbreaks, there was a 7% increase compared to the previous year. Conclusions: There was an increase of 15 % in cases of injuries due to fireworks that occurred during the intensified surveillance of the year 2024-2025 in relation to the previous season. Through the operational strategy, it was possible to identify and control risk factors in environmental health surveillance, avoiding the possible incidence of health effects due to the consumption of food or alcoholic beverages, as well as the acquisition of toys that do not comply with labeling or documentation standards, positively impacting the health of the city’s dwellers.
