Clinical and sociodemographic factors associated with HIV-TB coinfection from 2018 to 2023 Bogotá, Colombia

Abstract
Objective: To determine the clinical and sociodemographic factors associated with HIV-TB coinfection in the population of Bogotá Capital District during the period 2018 to 2023.
Methods: An analytical cross-sectional observational study was conducted in a population of 23,221 people living with HIV reported to the Epidemiological Surveillance System SIVIGILA of Bogota Colombia during the period 2018 to 2023.
Results: HIV/TB coinfection was identified in 3.2% (n=749) of the population with HIV during the study period. Logistic regression analysis identified several factors associated with coinfection with statistical significance: population in the adult and elderly life cycle; people in socioeconomic strata 1 and 2, indigenous population and those deprived of liberty. Associations were also found with the population affiliated to the General Social Security Health System (SGSSS), including modalities of the special, subsidized and non-affiliated regimes. Particularly relevant was the notification of patients in the epidemiological surveillance system during hospitalization, as well as those with comorbidities related to the digestive system.
Conclusions: HIV/TB coinfection is associated with social vulnerability factors. It is essential to prioritize early detection and timely management of HIV/TB coinfection, since late diagnosis contributes to severe health complications in patients. Comorbidities other than TB aggravate the situation of these patients, which generates the need for comprehensive approaches to care.
